“Don’t get too close,”
My mind did say
But my heart
It did not listen
“Don’t say those words!”
I said them though
And now I
See what happened
“Don’t open up!”
And yet I did
And let love
Take my hand
“Don’t let love in!”
My rally cry
Ignored those
Warning signs
“Don’t let it hurt!”
Is what I feel
Through tear-stained
Eyes of pain
