Doomed

Defensively she held her ground
Only to show them all
That she was not a simple girl
Who could be bought or told
To go to hell and left behind
Not her

She was a marked miss
Held up to ridicule by those
Who never knew a moments work
In a life of golden carriages
Brought to bear upon the frothing sea
Of humility
None for them

She yearned to know the truth
To separate it from the fiction
The weariness of daily toiling
Driving her to the edge of madness
While the sycophants laid squealing
Upon the black pavement
Of the Interstate of Life

Nothing would make sense again
It seemed the sun would never rise
Nor the skies turn that blue
That signaled another day of glorious sun
Nor would she live to breathe
The biting freshness of Hawaiian air
Or feel the instant chill of an Alaskan night

She was doomed to dwell
Here in her own preordained hell
Of anonymity and nonsense
Meaning nothing, knowing nothing,
Achieving nothing
Doomed
