you were dressed in white
linen skirt ,blue and white striped
nautical blouse
I watched you step
bare legged from your car
a breeze teased with tanned shiny shins
and the top of those knees where smooth danger lurks
it was a place and time you never were
in my life
I was 20 then
whippet thin and wild
drunk ,coked and singing songs of anger and betrayal
You were 26, slim and hungry
small breasted and dissatisfied
we could have fed our addictions and lusts for years
It was a glimpse at a moment that should have happened
when the time was right for us
I saw it and, for a flash, lived there
and oh baby
I miss it already
