Up some river
down some street
on some mountaintop
we’ll meet,
a casual glance
a serious look
like a movie
or some book,

A lazy summer
mid-week day
how’s it going?
we might say,
both of us
to-do lists
but with you
I can’t resist,

Thinking ways
to spend some time
coffee? tea?
that’ll be fine,
I can’t recall
what we said
if we used
the word bed,

But that’s what we
were both thinking
yellow caution lights
blinking,
after an hour
we said good day
and we both went
on our way,

I called your number
the next morning
sent a text
a subtle warning,
how about we
meet for dinner
you the saint
me the sinner,

The maître d'
poured the wine
you said one glass
would be fine,
we both had salmon
Copper River
were you cold
I saw you shiver,

We split dessert
crème brûlée
no loss for words
lots to say,
you wore my jacket
as we walked
down midnight streets
we talked and talked …
