All the effort it took to imply separation
Gone to waste.
All the posters once hanging
Now fluttering in the breeze
Or merely returning to pulp
In the remnants of the rain
Gathered in a depression
On the ground.

All the songs we sang merely echoes
Or something else equally trite and boringly
Poetic.
The sounds of far off artillery
Exist only in our heads.
Those marching footsteps merely the rain
Or the sound of your rational mind
Dripping down your pant leg
Onto your sock.

All of this and all of that
All of what not, the where and why
Merely a blasphemy,
Spit in the eye of Jehovah.
Every word is a lie.
Every thought nothing but an excuse.
Everything else superfluous and ugly,
But oh so comforting at the end of the day
When darkness and silence conspire
To steal your soul.

Only the weakness really matters
At the end of the scene
Only the flaws and the errors
Have any meaning.
Everything else is just for color.
Everything else merely a decoration,
A distraction to draw the eye away
From the degradation of self,
The slow decay of doubt
In all of it’s fascinating glory.

Proof that god loves us.
He just doesn’t know how to show it.
