Where are you Mother
as we sit and wait for you
to take your final journey?
do your dreams enfold you
in that far away time
when you were a girl?
a quieter way of life
working at fourteen
still a child but that's
how it was those days.
then a bride smiling
on my father's arm.
raising a family
in rural Norfolk.
I know it wasn't easy
money always short
on a shepherd's wages
workers of the land.
we that sit and wait
pray that the mind
no longer with us
dreams of happier times.
