When I sleep,
I can be a monolith.
The invisible waves of time crash over me and smooth my edges over centuries.
I might be a bejeweled mistress, with an arched eyebrow and hiding a secret smile.
I could be a device that expels electronic filth as I contemplate a billion and one equations.

But for tonight…
I’d like to trail out behind you like a ribbon in the wind.
I want to be the lingering scent on your skin so I can know if your hair gleams in the evening and what your footsteps sound like just before the sun comes up.
I could be an iridescent swirl in a glass of water that quenches your thirst,
a soft sound that reminds you of something you ache for.

Your hands part the clouds of sleepiness and I awaken and become a lizard in the sun, stretched out and baking in your delicious heat

Seems a bit wordy and slow at the start, but those last two lines are terrific!

Really good

I like the rhythm here. You have some strong metaphors throughout the poem. I'm more struck by the imagery in the second and third strophes over that of the first although the thought of a calculating porn machine brings to mind the one I'm typing on right now. Thanks for sharing.
