You and I are but two sticks
Cast upon the surge below.
Swept along at breakneck speed,
Tossed around by powers untamed.
You and I traverse the rapids,
Swirling eddies. jagged rocks,
Fighting the current, battered and bruised,
Trusting each other we journey on.
You and I are two sticks plunging,
Hurtling onward, braving the worst;
Calmer waters must follow the turmoil,
A widening river, tranquil, smooth.
You and I approach the end
Of a hazardous journey that thrilled us both.
The twists and turns that kept us together,
Binding us tightly, making us strong.
You and I no longer in peril,
Float apart towards opposite banks.
One journey ends upon lush, green shores,
Warmly embraced within welcoming arms.
I, without you, continue the journey,
Carried away against my will.
I've lost my love, I have no purpose;
I am but drifting, drifting alone.
