Within their tortoise coats, their heads drawn back,
the lonely walkers crowd the afternoon
to seek fulfillment for their vanished day
and listen to the luring siren's tune
that wafts from warm interiors their way.

Grey day evolves into a drizzly dusk -
the treetops first recede, then disappear;
the shops show up in multicolored light
and past the glow the rush-hour buses steer
their dizzy way into persuasive night.

Wrapped up inside myself it's good to walk
the pavements, concrete ribbons in the dark,
to warmth and food. It is what I like best,
that lonely, lamp-lit hour past shops and park,
between my job and home - a short, sweet rest.

Visually stunning

I could easily see the story. Your words were very vibrant and descriptive, I was there walking on that sidewalk
