Make a grab for it, it’s powder.

I remember her step in the hall.
She used to be there.

The words for big are overused, but it’s so big.
A gulf,
Yawning open on every side--
It’s treacherous to walk here now
Because she was all around for so many years.

I dare not fall, but there’s nothing to hold on to.
Make a grab for it, it’s powder and over I go,
So I throw myself to my knees and clutch madly what I still have.

She was small things:
The smell of chocolate,
Falling asleep on the couch so I had to shut the TV off.
Warm arms I can find, man;
Who knew the ground was made of her?

I’m not really alone. I have the best of friends
who still walk freely. There’s love.
I didn’t burn my bridges but they weren’t made for this empty chasm.

Make a grab for it, it’s out between your fingers;
Lean on it, it’ll bear you up.

Wow,

I can really feel the mood in this because of your word choices. Nicely done.
