(For Resurrection Sunday)

Symbol and metaphor
Mark this day of rising again...
Herbert made his poem
In the shape of angels' wings
On which men may rise in spirit
To celebrate their Resurrection.
And Hopkins found the strength
To pray for an "Easter in us"
At the death of the sisters of Christ.
Mayhap I too can find,
Somewhere in the graveyard of my heart,
A vessel with wings of hope
To help me rise in faith
And keep my soul from dying.
