Empty Corner

The place is empty
without you,
but I don’t mind.
Every nook and cranny
where you would stash
a scrap of paper
with a phone number,
but no name,
reminds me
of the laughter
in your eyes
when I would lecture
and you would say,
when it’s important
you’ll remember,
and when it’s not
it won’t matter
that you forgot the name.
Isn’t it wonderful
how an empty corner
makes me smile,
as I await your return.
