Ten times too much
turns my mind into mush
at the thought of a lifetime
bought out underfoot.

When my man asked what I'd do
if I won that money
the trip I described
included just me.

It wasn't coincidental
the other drove an Escape,
not in my mind;
it's what I was to make.

He's on his way back
and I'll hop in his door
and this time just let him;
this time I'm sure.

Then I'll drive back the same way
and walk right back in
my life put on hold
where the deep breaths begin.

I'll remember to smile
and laugh right on cue;
I've done it all my life
it's just what I do.

Then I'll pant feverishly
behind locked room doors
and plan my escape
for a few seconds more.
