Click heretoday is a very happy day
because there is nothing to do
and nothing new to say.
this is a relief you know…
maybe its like eating lunch
or going for a long walk.
its a very good feeling
and i want you to feel it too
if you think this is possible.
yes and on a day like today
anything seems possible…
especially this.
today i am innocent…
like a wild thing and
content to lie in the sun.
today i can be lazy…
i have eaten my fill and
i want to stretch and yawn.
there will be no hunt today
there will be no noise…
only the purring of my heart.
i will lift a lazy head
to sniff the untamed breeze
only to sleep and dream.
maybe i will dream about meat
maybe it will be the stars
maybe i will dream of living.
yes on a day like today
anything seems possible…
especially this.
This poem gets better as you reread it. Structually and verbally very simple, it fits together almost seamlessly and serves its subject admirably.
....by the deceptive simplicity of this poem. Read it several times - aloud. It's lovely.
lay beside you in the sun, you made me feel like a big ol kitty with nothing else to do but think beautiful thoughts about meat and warm sun..I adore the way to take me into your poems and make me feel like they were all written just so I could read them ;) maria
I had to read it twice, but was still a bit disappointed. The first few stanzas are too prosaic, the refrain sounds trite, which wouldn't necessarily be bad for the poem, but it never takes advantage of it either...
There are good verses here and there, but I really never felt the poem could get over (or to terms with) the 'nothing to do and nothing new to say' feel.
Maybe a 75%, but I know you can do and have done a lot better.
before I warmed to it. The sing-song quality put me off at first, but then I felt its simplicity reflects the sort of laisse faire attitude of the speaker. Simple but profound in its quiet serenity. :-)
