chipped paint
and
cracked brick
and
plaster
bone white
and
shadows
fall thick
and
skeletal faces
of
empty houses
all
leering blank
in
dark alleys
where
dark arouses
all the cat's eyes
into burning
and
I walk this
stark asylum
as the rain comes
cold and careless
beats upon roofs
likely leaking
striking ill beat
like old hell's drum

stepping on cracks
and
losing track
and
drinking gin
where
it's the eagle
that
takes you back
and
see the boxes
where
no one talks
and
all the rain
it
always gets in
and
it's
a
sin

this world we live in
