Pretenses controlled I flaunt a me
that wavers and hides
in dull light and shimmering darkness.

But prancing on eggshells
is like second nature
to the wounded and weak.

In one swift moment I am caught,
stripped bare
raw
exposed
forced to bleed out a painful reality.

Fighting changes from the inside,
I’m enslaved by fear in this
crumbling façade of a fortress I’ve built.

Power I never had is gone again;
a rift to be filled with
One who sees me for what I really am.

Instead of frozen I am transfixed,
watching dread and need entwine.
I’m drawn towards a sacrificial transformation.

Through healing I become less,
exposing myself to become more.
Enslaved, so that fear may never hold me again.
