She grew up playing tea for less than two
Inside a desperate room with no view
Where she was appointed Queen of Nowhereland
By her inconsequential loyal subjects

Her teen years were far from a fairytale
No prince to rescue her from loneliness
They were too busy chasing prom queens
To even notice she was barely breathing

This is what's left of her childhood memories
That and a ragdoll she sleeps with at night
Oh how she wants to forget all that she remembers
As motivation vacillates underneath indecision

'Cause...
Since hitting the city her dreams turned to dust
The sidewalk has collapsed beneath her feet
She's all wrapped up in her faded glory
Sad eyes giving away her jaded life story
Her life is crashing down all around her

At times she wonders why she ever moved away
Leaving her family and friends dead inside photographs
All just to turn over a misfortunate life of fool's gold
Underneath the familial love she casually cast aside

She wonders how she retains a sense of composure
As she desperately smokes size 2 cigarettes
While nervously watching people pass her by
That dance with laughing skeletons inside their heads

She wonders why she stays in this cutthroat city
Why doesn't she throw her dreams over her shoulder
Leaving her ex-lovers ghosts in virtual mourning
Instead she sits and talks aloud to strangers

'Cause...
Since hitting the city her dreams turned to dust
The sidewalk has collapsed beneath her feet
She's all wrapped up in her faded glory
Sad eyes giving away her jaded life story
Her life is crashing down all around her

At night she's lies crabwise near passing trains
Staring down the barrel of endless winding tracks
Catching falling stars with outstretched hands
She's finally reached life's unmarked crossroads

Her past is fading into unrecognizable memories
Her future is too blurry to see with blinded eyes
She's living her everpresent life in manic limbo
Not really knowing whether she should stay or go

She's falling, falling, falling into a black void
With no invisible safety net to break her fall
She wants to implode into a million butterflies
Ascend up into the peaceful heavens above

'Cause...
Since hitting the city her dreams turned to dust
The sidewalk has collapsed beneath her feet
She's all wrapped up in her faded glory
Sad eyes giving away her jaded life story
Her life is crashing down all around her

Everywhere cacophony breathes out over silence
Chaos has stripped her naked to the bone
She stands outside in the cold tired and alone
Where no one can penetrate her fragile skin

It's on uncertain days like these that she screams
As technicolor dreams fade into monotone memories
They're breaking her down to the point of no return
Pushing her beyond sanity's chaotic straight edge

This all but makes her scream outloud
With no ties to bind her to this temporal life
Floating like a loose balloon without a string
Why doesn't she travel on down an unpaved road

'Cause...
Since hitting the city her dreams turned to dust
The sidewalk has collapsed beneath her feet
She's all wrapped up in her faded glory
Sad eyes giving away her jaded life story
Her life is crashing down all around her

dreams.

Technicolor dreams may fade into monotone memories.

~~

A depressing view as she struck out on her own and is now striking out in life.
