Dependable though slightly priggish, he
Had something in his face that seemed to be
Immensely nice – yet not a girl could find
The key to get admission to his mind
Until he fell in love with soft, sweet May
Who always had the perfect words to say
And always knew the perfect things to do
Since she would listen well and take her cue.
And then they breathed she had been loose, and so
He lost his verve and hoped that she might go –
And listen well she could, and go she did
And to nobody ever mentioned it;
She hardly showed she felt the slighting keenly
But bore her lovely head a bit more queenly
And stayed the good old girl she'd always been,
With simple joys, without a major sin.
It must have been an accident, they say,
That she got crushed out on the motorway...
When she got buried everyone was there
Apart from him, but that was only fair;
He felt he had done right. Yet, to this day,
He's trying to find someone as sweet as May.

Wrong title...

I'm afraid it is open to misinterpretation... What I intended is that 'he' got his deserts - should've followed his heart instead of listening to evil tongues.

A hard lesson!

Such a pity it became necessary! And even with his loss, hers was greater!
