I study my map enhanced with GIS.
There’s flowers and corpses in rows, I see them
Straight scarp, manmade, but no sign of the fault.
The fault must be near, how could I miss
Trend and location clear in the DEM.
Across the fence I see a slope, but doubt

Unsure, we on to next spot on my map,
Going with my student son and fair femme
I see a small dip and come to a halt
Abandoned house falling apart, its roof a gap
Break Fault

Field studies of active surface faults in Houston. The abbreviations are commonly said as a word, rather than spelled out:
DEM – Digital Elevation Model – grid of surface elevations
GIS – Geographic Information Systems - software and data for mapping etc.

Huh?

You may be another Long Fellow for all I know, but don't quit your day job.

I read the explanation, which didn't mean a lot to me although I got the gist, before I read the poem so I first read it with a technical meaning. Then I went back and read the poem again from an artistic point of view which I found preferable although I must say please take out the capital letters at the beginning of the lines and it will read far more smoothly.

Interesting and somewhat intriguing,

I think. But thank goodness we have "No-Fault Insurance" in Canada.

not to be a killjoy

but even with the explanations of your abbreviations i still don't know what any of that stuff means, which makes the poem inedible. I usually like and understand your poems, this one not so much.

In spite of the technically language, I loved this poem. Different subject matter. Must be the day for it.
