starin at the Hennepin bridge
spanning the Mississippi
third to cross the river
at that point third in
the river of time
surreal it seems to
me like a monolith
from ancient times
across the water another
emblem of a forgotten
era...ye ol' Grain Belt beer
sign...a beer bottle cap
at least fifty feet wide
they're both friends of mine
telling me I'm close to home
as I'll ever be
