How do I know I am not
your fill-in-the-gap girl?
Practiced magic potions
tried until you know they work.
Charms and trinkets bestowed;
reaction gauged for future reference.

How do I know I am not
your until-someone-better-
comes-along woman?
Enough attention given
to be kept in play,
but never enough to catch the ball.

How do I know I am not
your passing interest lady?
The one who captures your fancy
for an instant, but not long term.
Tossed aside during football season
or for a last minute appointment.

How do I know I am not
your make-your-ex-jealous dame?
The eye-candy you display
for ego boosts and sly smirks.
The one who is served crumbs
and not delicacies fit for a queen.

How do I know I am not
your sexual conquest kitty?
New positions abound
while cuddles and kisses
are restricted venues.
Exciting, yes;
but not meant to be adored.

How do I know?
I could be all
or none of them to you.
So, I’ll pass for now.
Wait with lingering hope
knowing someone worthy will manifest.
