Your merest touch can set off memories
Of how you looked the first time that we met
And how it felt to kiss you on the lips
The first time we did that, and how you looked
The day we knew we were in love and how
Your face grew soft then drawn in ecstacy
The night I bedded you. And all the nights
Since then, the way you smile in afterglow.
I think about the way you change each day
Yet still remain my same sweet loving wife,
Stable, beyond prediction, paradox
Made flesh, and flesh so sweet to touch and hold.
More precious than my many memories
Is your forever-new reality.
