Reaching for destiny, while grasping at straws
Hoping against hope, that my labors have finally paid off
All this effort, for just a promise
The love long gone,
Only habit driving me on

Days and nights, fighting time against need
Forgoing home and hearth for hotel and destitution
Lusting for the craving
Craving for the lust

Journeying for the end of my search,
And the rewards offered falsely

Savoring the pain of failure,
To sweeten the thrill of victory

Now my days are waning, steady into a million nights,
Hope has flickered, but never faded,

After all,

The lost was once found, so I can’t help but think,
Eventually I’ll be back from being alone,
To the life of destiny I’m reaching for

So until that day, when my life’s desires are finally mine,
I will press on,
With little to strive for,
Except the dreams of a man

His life had long ago taught him to expect the worst
To first and foremost,
Never take for granted success

Weary and lost, my purpose skewed,
I find solace in having tried,

Though there are no points for second place,
Having lost to the best,
My soul has been forged,
Folded and honed,
From a thousands times told,
My best is no requiem for success
