oneiriaalmost 9 years agoAuthorThis poem is about the iconic Old Man of the Mountains in Franconia Notch in the White Mountains of New Hampshire. This natural rock formation resembled the head of a bearded man and was featured on New Hampshire quarter. Sadly, that formation collapsed a few years ago.
The Old Man of the Mountains was the subject of the short story "The Great Stone Face" by Nathaniel Hawthorne. In that story a young man who was transfixed by this rock formation grew into an old man whose face and head became a spitting image of this rock formation,
