240 years have skipped on by
You figure our nation would be better
It is like we ring dry the wet cloth
But it just seems to get even wetter.
In 1776, we declared our independence
Since then we have only improved a bit
How can we celebrate freedom for all
When we hand select who deserves it?
Some use social media like a pulpit
Shaking their fist and spewing anger
In some way it feels like the Old West
Except guns are easier than hanging ya.
Freedom isn't just for the whites
And it isn't just for the blacks
It isn't for the Republicans
And certainly not for the Democrats.
Freedom is for all the men, women or both
Freedom has no boundaries like hate.
Freedom wasn't created for the select
It doesn't care if your gay or straight.
Mankind has documented over 5,000 religions
Why is one right and the rest are wrong?
Why can't we respect each others' choice
Why do we keep playing the same old song?
We must end the violence and hate together
No matter our preference, race, color or creed
Then maybe we can truly celebrate this holiday
Freedom would be without cost and really be free.
