Click hereRembrandt van Rijn was agutmensch
who wished to expiate his guilt
for having dallied with the maid.
Of course, the sky would open, the man
was about to die for chrissake!
in a manner of speaking, of course.
And as for Saul of Tarsus
in thechiaroscuro
who stared at Stephen bathed in the light,
in a manner of speaking, of course,
he looked rather cataleptic,
just as he was when he fell off his horse.
I have mixed feelings toward poems with external references, but I still thought yours was cleverly put together. It gave me an 'A-ha' feeling when I pieced things together. Interesting ending; wasn't he in shock, rather than cataleptic, as he fell from the horse? Or perhaps this is precisely your meaning, that he must not have been.
everything fits, and i love the accents.
maybe what i like most about this is your own use of contrast - of subject/narrator, art/(psuedo)science, the elevated v the base, the act depicted v 'gutmensch'.
well worth anyone unfamiliar with the painting in question to go take a good long look and read up about it.
"just as he was when he fell off his horse."
I suppose the horse must have felt freaked out!
Five!
with Rembrandt's original canvas depicted on top !! thank you for chiaroscuro & cataleptic : 2 new words I learnt from this poem & wonderful concept !! high-5 !
