(To Randy and that lovely leaf crunch, wind biting, never to be equaled hippie Autumn weekend—I think of you still and always)

Slate blue San Francisco sky,
Clouds scampering by,
Song of sea gulls
In the clear sky.
Here on the Bay,
My true love and I,
Come in the cold morning
To stand side by side.
Soldiers in loving.
Traces of tears.
Fog in the meadows
Of love so near.
Arms round each other.
Heaven is here.
Sound of the city,
Morning cars to steer.
Street cars to piggyback
On the steep hills,
Autumn in grace notes,
My slender love
And I.
Toss breadcrumbs to
The sea gulls,
Laugh at their precision
And how they dart and
Swoop,
Calling out magic,
As they catch the bread
Crusts in their mouths.
Oh love you and I
Kissing in flight.
Holding in rapture,
'Neath clean Autumn day,
Fall leaves in branches
In home fields far away.
Distance is you, love.
Distance is me.
Distance is our love
For all eternity.
Coming home from the docks
Must be a frightful thing,
Sun not in heather,
Love not in bloom.
Pain all round there.
In secrets half sworn.
While you and I, love,
Have each other and
Never forlorn.
Scene of our jackets,
Our heavy jeans,
Our cambric shirts,
Our long hair serene,
As we stare in the morning
And feel it staring back,
Cross the wide horizon,
Where there is no back
To the sky or end to the
Morn.
Where there is true love,
Dear,
As we kiss,
And are foresworn.
Toss of magic
Scarves from our necks.
Bright red and blue colors
Drifting on sea hex.
Conjure we each other.
Now we are one.
No one is here, love,
Save you and me,
And morning is forever,
And morning is friendly
Jacket Warm.
And coffee later on
In hot cardboard cups,
At the market and so
Sconces with butter,
And back to our loft,
To hold the sea with us.
Inside you see.
And outside we are also
Painfully clear,
Lovers,
And don’t you see?
Wouldn’t you like to be
Happy delirious giggly
We?
In love for all wheel barrow
Big city
Small blue neighborhood
Bright red walkway
And bay window to look from
As we make love.
Would you not wish to be
As in love
As we?
As we?
