I opened the door for you
You saw me and stepped back
What did you see then?
You told me later, a surprise

You gave me flowers and wine
I was flustered, not sure what to do
Prompted by my friend a vase was found
You stood, looking uneasy, out of place

Looking at you, trying not to stare
You smiled, your whole face lit up
Twinkling eyes, foretelling of humour
I smiled back, liking what I saw

I was shy, and so were you, so nervoue
Like two silly teenagers on a first date
We sat and chatted, finding it easy to talk
I loved your red hair, blue eyes, your face

Time passed quickly so the date progressed
Sitting side by side at the picture theatre
I felt your body shaking when our arms touched
You were as scared as me, I smiled at this

The drive home, to my place was silent, uneventful
I invited you inside, we sipped wine, made small talk
Soon it was time for you to go, reluctant to part
I thought, I wish you didn't, stay I wanted to say

We said our goodbyes, talking of phone calls
I knew you would be back, my blind date
You liked me and I felt the same way
We didn't say it but somehow we just knew

I was ready to clse the door, having said farewell
You stopped and turned, your face questioning
"Can I kiss you goodnight?" I smiled. Nodding.
The kiss warm and tender, telling me there would be more
