The first full moon was a night for
anything to come through our doors.

Broken bones, shattered skulls
Bullets ending life before it had time to begin.

Births in the process of the mother dying from OD
Children burned, kids tripping on their choice of drugs.

Parents looking like deer caught in headlights
when they are told of their angel sniffing butane
Huffing its called on the street.

Speed kills freaking out will get you a room in Psyche
Jumping upon the gurney hands deep in the guts of the teen.

When will they stop bringing knives to gunfights?

Listening for the approaching siren
what will it be?
A cardiac or a wounded police officer?

I note wounded police man the sea of blue is making it's way through.
They stand shoulder to shoulder as to ward off death.
Their friend, brother, comrade is fighting to stay alive.

His chest is ripped apart most isn't here
Must have left it at the scene of the crime.
He is crying silently, wanting to speak but not able.

I lean down to let his lips brush my ear
I strain for this man in blue to say his last words
'Tell my wife I love her.'

Coded no chance for recovery but we give it a hell of a try.
His face is so young. One by one they come in to say their farewells.
He will be buried a hero color guard the sea of blue will take him on home.

Exhaustion beats out fatigue I am eyeing the last twinkie in the machine.
Bets are up to four to one its been there for two years.
Now do I dare to try the consensus and hope its fresher?

Why not I never liked safe I suppose that's why I'm in Emergency medicine.

Onslaught of sirens frees that twinkle one more time.

People find the oddest things to do to one another.

Man has a hatchet sticking out of his head
talking as though it wasn't
I shake my head smelling the liqueur I know
we will sober him up before surgery.

A young man scraped his flesh off on the highway
on his new bike please save these jeans they are
his lucky pair.

Ah yes the full moon brings all kinds in here
But I wouldn't be anywhere else in life
This is better than television
You couldn't make up this stuff..

Full moon is expected to happen this weekend..
