Feed a snake, starve a ladder
Deny the snake, espouse the ladder
Make the snake a secret, publish the ladder
Search for the snake, privately
Discuss the ladder with others
Be preoccupied with the snake
lose interest in the ladder
Until we find and eat the snake,
night after delicious night
and are afraid to face the ladder
in our shame,
and we will never fucking figure out
that snake and ladder are the same.
