Here are the two of us: the one you see
and one that always follows at my shoulder –
I stay the same, she grows as I get older
and one day she'll have overtaken me.

Mine is the cheerful face that shows no care;
hers is a face of worry, grey and thin
with hollow eyes and cheeks and sorry grin
you'd see if you should find me unaware

past feelings where nobody ought to go –
my conscious thoughts are happy, full of light
but she will whisper others in the night
to make me see what I don't want to know

till sun has waken and it's time to rise
and shake off all the sorrow of the dark
that makes the brightest day seem cold and stark –
life, won't you chase this spectre from my eyes?

Fascinating perspective

As usual, Demure. I love the way your mind works.

I read this over at least a hundred times. Awesome! A beautiful piece of art. Very well done!
