Ghost in the Soul's Shadows

The one
For whom you search
Is impossible
To find
For the senses
Will fail
And you
Will be lost

Try to see
And you will be blind
Stop and listen
Silence will fall
On your deaf ears
The taste in your mouth
Will be bland and strange
When you reach out
There will be nothing to feel
The faint scent
Is lost forever
Like a wraith
On night's wind

In my knowledge
You want to believe
Yet do not
Erase the doubt
Your questions
Will be answered
When the spirit is free
Of the mind's restraints

The mind and spirit
Are the key
To finding
The unknown entity
Open your mind
Free
The spirit within
Enter
The dark shadows
Of your own soul

Your greatest fear
Will be destroyed
The journey
Into darkness
Will not
Be made alone
There is a warrior
Who will guide you
Through
The unknown hell

The sun fades
A stranger appears
One fatal warning:
Do not look back!

The first glance
You hide the laughter
One thought
Races into your mind
How can I accept
The simple picture
My eyes can see
The plain voice
My ears can hear
The slight body
My hands can feel

An attempt is made
To leave him behind
Society has taught you
A face in the crowd
Can not be unique

Play the game
You have the winning hand
Any attempt to trick you
Will backfire
And be turned
Against
A surprised opponent

My acquaintance
An annoying fool
Very talkative
But saying nothing
I want to hear

The mind
Finally blocks him out
His lips move
But I can not hear
The words
That are coming
Out of his mouth

The journey
Becomes longer and harder
Than I had ever dreamed
I have to go on
Until I find
The one
Who will heal
The lifetime of wounds
Inside my heart

Lonliness and silence
Are taking their toll
The walls and barriers
Which I spent my entire life
Building and perfecting
Are beginning to wear down
For the first time
I begin to listen
To the words
My companion is speaking
And I am surprised
At what
He has to say:

"I too am on a search
For a lone warrior
A child of the night
Who believed himself
To be immortal
But in the same moment
Dreamed
Of slipping into
death's
Warm embrace"

Now
I begin to question
Everything
I had learned
In life
And believed
To be true

Could it be
The differences
I thought
Separated us
Were only illusion
Created
By a society
Which I had trusted
Like a naive fool

But now
Because of a face in the crowd
I begin to realize
Society
Only lied to me

The illusion
Of life
I believed
To be true
At the genesis
Of this long journey
Is now
A fading dream
As I awaken
To the nightmare
Of reality

My companion
Now travels in silence
I try to question
But there is no reply
A serious face
Hides all traces
Of thought
Or emotion

The road
On which we have traveled
Now separates
He must go
I do no try to argue
We both know
The battles we face
From this moment on
We must fight
Alone

For one last time
He speakes to me:

"Never forget
Who you are
Or where
You have been"

I now travel this path
Alone
The dark shadows
Are beginning to fade
With the first light
Of dawn

"Now
With an open mind
And a free spirit
The one
For whom you search
You will find
For you can finally hear
The faint whisper
Of the ghost
In your soul's shadows"

"In the dark of the night
Is where you will find me
Waiting
In the shadows
Fearing not the light
Natural or man made
But a mere glance
From your radiant eyes"
