The ghosts, he said,
are what took him away.
He couldn't fight the demons,
not another day.

He said, the ghosts of your past,
they always seem to me,
to get in the way,
interuppting our loving.

Instead of fighting them, he said,
you always fought me,
pushing and crying,
begging and pleading with me.

I'm not the one to beg to,
I'm not the one who made you cry,
but still you push and fight,
making me wonder why.

And so that fateful day,
three weeks ago,
I walked away from our love,
breaking my heart so.

I couldn't bear it any longer,
I needed to hear your voice,
and so I return again,
hoping you've made your choice.

Will you listen to them?
Will you still fight me?
Or will you see the love I have,
can help to set you free?

The ghosts may go away
or they may stay an eternity,
but please always remember,
the ghosts are not me.

So as he said all these things,
my eyes welled up with tears,
knowing that what he'd said was
the most truthful I'd heard in years.

And that is how this story begins,
who knows how it will end.
Together we'll try to fight those ghosts,
so that our love will transcend.
