* * * * *

Friend called me at work one day
her husband had went astray
needed a lay
with his secretary

My friend, I'll call her Joan
left all alone
with a disconnected phone
and two small children

I invited her for lunch
just a hunch
friends in a crunch
needed more than rhetoric

She totally void of self esteem
not far from bottom it would seem
following a destructive regime
and needed to jump tracks quickly

As young girls, we had played around
not her taste she had found
wanted a life normal and sound
she was comfortable with the status quo

After lunch I drove her home
kids in school, we alone
I quickly set the sexual tone
that she was still a desirable woman

On the couch, I caressed her thighs
kissed her teary, puffy eyes
protest, followed by sighs
starving for someone to desire her

I loved her passionately, like I do
with any girl I want to screw
she came a time or two
but it was her eyes, a sparkle, absent before

She now knew she could be desired
and that's all that's required
when self worth is tired
I did the only thing I knew to revive her

She recently called me again
thanked me for being a friend
divorced and found another man
and I wished her well
