Click hereOur coffee sessions are no more
La lalala lur lura. Lul lara lul lara la
Nikhilesh is in Paris , Moidul is in Dhaka
They are in Coffee House no more
Grand Hotel guitarist Goanese D'souza
Is sleepin' peacefully in his grave .....
Where did our Golden late afternoons disappear ?
Sujata is married to a loaded multimillionnaire
He keeps her covered in diamonds :
Foreign vacations , flat , car , she has it all
Roma Roy poor gal fell in love with someone
Who did Not love her back : she's now in the
Mental Asylum !?!
Amal was not forgiven by Life : alas
He is today a victim of gallopin'
Cancer !?!
Nikhil was an Art college product
He used to show us his pictures
Reporter Moidul would sit quietly
Readin' all the papers he could grab
Curious D'souza would sit quietly
Soakin' up our conversation , without openin'
His mouth
Roma Roy the vivacious one
Would regale us with tales of
Her roles in amateur theatre
At her Company Socials
Amal the poet who never
Sold a poem or was published
His talent was never quite recognized .
With steamin' cuppas & cheap cigarettes
Our endless arguments about
Satyajit Ray or Raj Kapoor
Or Jamini Ray or MF Hussain
Who was the better film director
Or who the greater artist ???
From 4 pm to 7-30 : rain or shine
We would invariably be @ our
Regular table
Today also the table is full
Seven cups do not lie empty
But where did our Golden late afternoon disappear ?
Our Coffee house sessions are no more , alas
La lalala lurlurla lur lala lur lalala lur lalala lah .........
( this is a loose translation of the Bengali superhit Coffee houser Adda sung by late legendary Manna De & penned by Suprotim Ghosh )
something very human in this, as you guys discussed...almost makes me think Hemmingway (who as a girl I hated but as a woman appreciate.)
Petty Regional , Cultural , Racial differences to prove as Human Beings we are One ! This song / poem echoes the haunting lyrics of the English/American song Our old Gang is Breaking-up ! As human beings congregate in groups , grow older , maturer , apart these emotions will resurface again'n again & i salute the original Bengali lyricist/poet who gave us this poem --- Mr. Suprotim Ghosh .
Lot of comonality in culture when you get passed the language barrier. Would like to hear it.
