The long gone dreams of yesterday
pass away into the silent night
leaving me alone and weary while
a misty veil of tears dims my sight.

In my youth I thought naively
that the time for us would never fly,
for young and wise we’d always be
since only a fool should ever die.

But now I’m old and worn with grief
and the truth of things I see:
it matters not if one is young
when the winds of fate blow so free.

And all that's left to say, my friend,
in a world gone crazed with death,
is a frail litany against the pain--
hold peace, and grief, and be still.
