I'm gonna ride outa here on a silver highway
in a '57 Chevrolet
I'll start out around midnight
an' I'll be gone by the break of day

That car is my last hope to get out of here
My last chance to skip this town
I owe lot of money to a lot of people
and I'll be dead if they track me down

I found it in this barn where a guy had kept it
for almost twenty-seven years
He said I could have it if I just got it of his hands
man, I could not believe my ears

I've got my ticket out of this concrete prison
It ain't perfect but it gets around
I can't afford any custom parts
so I just took whatever I found

A three-fifty tpi from an old Camaro
with a supercharger bolted on on top
She does the quarter mile in ten seconds flat
and there ain't no way no-one's gonna make me stop

I've got a Hurst on the floor and a ten-bolt axle
and I just prey it'll handle the torque
I'm pretty sure it'll get me out of here
but then it's a long way from here to New York

You can't blame me for wantin' to get out of here
I know that you want to yourself
But, honey, this is my ride, and I'm real sorry
but it ain't got room for nobody else

I wish you all luck in ev'rything you do
and I beg that you'll forgive me someday
No long goodbyes, when you wake up
I'll already be on my way

Don't cry over me, I don't deserve it
No, it's better if you save your tears
You've got this whole life to look forward to
You won't even remember me in a couple of years

I'll take a picture of you in your sleep
so I'll have something to remember you by
I'm sorry if it hurts, but theres nothing I can do
Now, one last kiss, and then goodbye
