Goodbye to you yesterday, for today I am leaving you behind
Miss me not but rather keep the flame burning as a reminder
Of simpler times when happy roamed the land and smiles ruled
No more will I cling to you with dreams of grandeur or hopes of contentment
For now you offer no comfort to the longings of my heart
And the pleadings of my soul
You are but a faded light that no longer holds the warmth
That once sustained and bathed me in your glory
Tomorrow beckons me forth with promises of roses and wine
And lays at my feet,
a place with which to rest
My weary, exhausted body; that soft place to land
That I so eagerly once sought from you
Goodbye to you yesterday, for today I am leaving you behind
And reaching out for tomorrow…
