more, more, they pleaded
tell us more

ok, I assented
shifting to find
a more comfortable position

once upon a time
there was a woman
haunted and hounded
naked from the storm
hopelessly barricaded within herself
that none may touch her again

once a sad little boy was told
that his father could not visit
because he sailed over the ocean
but was really across town

once a little girl
lost her father
lost her home and family
shhhh, mommy whispered
we have a new daddy now

once a man was held captive
in warm golden chains
made from the hearts
of those he loved most

once there was a happy soul
who lived a rewarding life
in gratitude and contentment
people wondered
what was wrong with him

as I struggled to rise
they asked for one more
please just one more
not tonight, I said gently
carrying each to their bed
turning off the light

goodnight angels
have beautiful dreams
that one day can come true
