Sheets of rain, driven
before the wind, lash
against my clinging
trouser legs, obscuring
the sharp outlines of houses
nearby.
Damp rising from
the steaming pavements,
the smell of wet earth
insidiously comes
invading my nostrils -
summer,
splashing through puddles
I don't care one jot
about wet clothes or
dripping hairdo for the
sheer joy that’s singing
inside.
