GROWING UP

It came outta nowhere and hit me like a fire
An idea that rocked my world and filled me with desire
I'll write, I'll read, and I'll put on a show
My father will love it as he watches me grow

I'll write my name, that's the first thing I'll do
Then the alphabet and grow and inch or two
And on to Jane and her dog as I grow an inch or three
Math comes next and friends in elementary

Middle school and fractions, I'll conquer them all
I'll see ey-to-ey with mom as I grow really tall
Dad will see me play sports and win
He'll love it and come again and again

On to high school where I learn to drive
I learn about sex, dating, and saving lives
I build up my future, my grades overcome
My adulthood is next; vote, drink, and then some

High school grad now and college is a blast
Gotta study harder now if I'm gonna make it last
I make my dad proud and mom's gonna cry
When at last to college I victoriously say Goodbye

I bury my parents one after the other
I comfort mysedlf and my little brother
I'm married, at least mom was there
She cried again, the last she would share

My wife is great, my job secure
She late; says she'll test to be sure
She's pregnant, being a father's gonna be great
At least until she's 21 and old enough to date.
