Loudly ticking kitchen clock
Screaming, taunting, laughing
Sideways walls and slanted halls
Closing slowly in

Reaching out to fleshless hands
Lacking heart with empty soul
Walking whispers- distant rooms
No such safety there

Brain expanding- pounding mind
Holding on to floor
Cooling face with drooling tongue
Begging unseen air

“Don’t be silly! Go to bed!”
Yelled out angry words
Biting blanket- gasping breath
Holding hand to hand

Pleading to an unseen God
Dreaming, wishing, hope
Child in a grown-up land
Of absolute dispair
