Halloween

Ghostly ghouls and gruesome goblins,
Shadows on my wall are bobbing,
Pounding hard, my heart is throbbing,
I know the monsters are hobbling,
Across the wood floor of my room.

“Go away monsters! Leave my room.”
Through the window, I see the moon,
Wicked witches fly by on brooms.

Sorry I ate so much candy,
Should have listened to my Daddy,
Because now I can’t fall to sleep,
And pray to God my soul to keep.

Holding breath beneath the covers,
Maybe, monsters won’t discover,
Me all alone in my bedroom.

Here I’ll stay all day until noon.
My brother said there’s two ugly
Monsters living under my bed.
Lying in the middle snugly,
There’s no way they can reach my head.

Suddenly, my closed door opens,
Here I lie silently hoping,
I’ll make it through this Halloween.

I hear his breath. He sounds so mean.
Pounding a shoe against the floor,
Violently slamming shut the door,
He jumps up on my bed. I’m dead.
What a relief. It’s my dog, Fred.

Trick or treat

That brought back memories of how my brother told me a monster lived under my bed every night before closing the door and turning off the light. I slept in the middle of the bed, just like the character in your poem.

I had a good laugh. Thanks for the memory.
