"You are always, in the end, alone," she said.

"well, why don't you just kill yourself then," i thought to respond. However, knowing she had suicidal tendecies, i refrained.

Instead I suggested, "It's a matter of faith. I have faith in love. What is there without faith? Are we the same as the rabbits and hummingbirds and bees? Life for the sake of life?"

I saw (or imagined) a shift in her expression: her eyes smiled at me. "Is that so unbearable to you? That we are not special? Life is beautiful. Forcing some constructed meaning onto it is........"

She hesitated for a moment.

Then, she looked away down the subway platform as if
suddenly the possibility of seeing headlights from an oncoming train demanded her attention. Just as quickly she turned back to me and stared intently into my eyes, demonstrating her conviction as she stated, "it's ugly."

As i stared back, i noticed for the first time how her eyes
were blue like the sky. Then, over what could have been seconds or hours, i came to understand. As she saw the comprehension in my eyes, brown like the earth, she took my hand.

what's this have to do with poetry?

shame on me. I thought there had to be poetic elements for a group of sentences to be called a poem. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Poetry#Basic_elements
