for my daughter, 12/10/07

You are my only daughter.
It's like being a horse,
with only one horseshoe.
Good blacksmith.

I'd say I love you, daughter,
but that would fall flat.
Flat, like a pence on a wooden
floor, without a single bounce.

I'd say I am proud of you,
because you decorate the world.
That too falls flat, like a piece of
parchment on the carpet.

So instead, I will challenge you:
Be now who you have never
heretofore been. Break the rules,
Cassie, live your own or somebody

else's dream! We don't
have to understand, and it is
not our place, at all, to disapprove,
condone, criticize, or even comment.

Live the dream, my darling
little girl. Mine is ending.
Ending, ending, ending.
Live yours, for me.

I hesitate to comment

the first three stanzas are great, the rest too much of a personal message, and the last maybe a little too much.

~~

Sweet challenge and encouragement; nice at Christmas though perhaps more apropos for New Year's Day.
