waiting at back booth
like a landing to come
Chicago or LA;
really grounded with gin, some tonic and a cigarette
a blind date to come
but late

could run, could sip
could look out the window at the city lights below far below
blowing smoke against the farm scene
wondering if the pilots have a jigger
a jiggle in their pants,
if hard to make one blue eyed officer’s insignia rock

late blind date, surprise or joke
a man or woman, a girl or boy;
this spot with back to footsteps.
waitress: boot click easy,
she or a twin sister would do
at this point of hard wood bench
better suited for game and squeak

flesh on polished curve
with pilot, bartender, barmaid or
furniture refinisher, just not so alone
waiting in the slot up tight to checkered table cloth
pouring salt in little piles for the bitch to wipe,
smiling, southern accented, slit skirt greetings
scoop front, long reach urge to make another trip
to restroom, bag with gifts and AAA’s

relaxed, refreshed
return to legs with good posture
finally arrival, crossed calves, red pumps
back of promising head,
the waitress doesn’t write things down
but she winks real pretty
her approval
at the Tarmac Saloon

Tarmac tokes

Polished pictures of worn words.

Good images, not much more

to tell of bars and airplanes

except where can you still smoke?
