I went for a hike
with Allegory
who wouldn’t shut up
kept telling a story,
Each switchback
a new conclusion
resulting in
some confusion,

Top of the ridge
stopped for a snack
Allegory
on her back,
Reading meaning
in the clouds
far far from
those city crowds,

We made camp
by a mountain lake
Allegory said:
let’s take
a skinny dip, this
magic place
and in she jumped
like it was a race,

I took my time
and joined her there
splashed and played
an unlikely pair,
Then made a fire
drank some wine
watched the stars
on Mountain Time,

Set up the tent
but slept outside
with Orion rising
side by side,
Watched meteors shower
at two in the morning
touching talking about
things we were learning,

A couple days later
back at the truck
sun burned satiated
with new-found luck,
In town Allegory
kissed me on the cheek
said: best to go searching
not knowing what you seek ….
