I was asked out today,
but I couldn't say,
"Yes."
Instead, I said,
"Maybe...another day."

He reminded me of you,
except,
unlike you,
he was free
to be with me -
unlike you,
who never will be.

I wish I could have said,
"Yes!"
But my heart didn't allow me.
Why won't it set me free?

Because I live in hope that
maybe one day,
you'll choose to be
with me!

And hope keeps me going,
despite knowing,
that I'm deluding
myself.

*sigh*

I wish we didn't have to know this space. You penned it beautifully and accurately.
