         How Can It Be?

How can it be, at twenty and three,
He can feel something for me?

His soul was mine,
     Once upon a time.

Another place, another dream,
Beyond time and distance it would seem.

Destined to meet again and again,
     Reliving what might have been.

The sun rises, the sun falls,
     Breaking down these strong walls.

To see his face, to touch his lips,
To feel his lust, to feel his hips.

These things can never be,
     His being only twenty-three.

This life I live began anew,
     Before his own rebirthing grew.

Time will flow,
     And I will go.

Leaving behind that which I love,
     To join again up above.

I pray the next life will be kinder,
     Allowing us to begin together.
