I have changed
in many ways
since my gone-by
high school days

You see it in my poetry
You see it in my flair
You see it in my paintings
a breath that wasn't always there

You see, I used to rhyme
And use absolutely rigid style
A lot like Shakespeare
Thought he was so the ultimate coolio
Jacked into all the awesomeness of expression

But since then, I have new heroes
I like pop art now
but I still hate that WRETCHED Andy Warhol!
A SOUP CAN IS NOT ART!
(Though as long as people buy my crap,
I guess I shouldn't complain, you know?)
Keith H., and my username's namesake
Jean-Michel Basquiat! Gorgeous guy, great work...
Too bad he's dead

And now my poetry is about what I feel
And I take my cues from other greats
Beatnik Ginsberg... That psycho Uncle Walt
And e.e. cummings to Sylvia Plath
Ah, suicide is still nice to contemplate,
Ain't that right, Sylvia, age thirty,
naked with your head in an oven?
Don't worry girl, Bell Jar rocks out loud

But I can still rhyme
some of the time
So I guess I've proved
to your own self be true

And just because you change
it doesn't mean you go away
or lose yourself.
Be happy in you!
